ekosgen was commissioned to undertake research into the opportunities and advantages of a Foundational Economy approach to economic development in rural and urban areas of Scotland, and explore the implications and potential advantages for the skills system.
We carried out a detailed review of existing literature and learning, and studied international comparators to determine how this approach could contribute to economic and social wellbeing, development of place and Community Wealth Building.
Our report provided Skills Development Scotland and other stakeholders with a clear understanding of the current and emerging landscape and policy context. We made recommendations of how it could be piloted and applied in Scotland.
